Offense leads way in baseball team's in win over Mt. San Jacinto

Irvine Valley's baseball team racked up 19 hits , including several of them in a big sixth inning to run away with a 10-7 victory over Mt. San Jacinto on Thursday at home.

The victory lifted Irvine Valley's record to over .500 at 3-2.

Irvine Valley trailed, 4-1, heading into the bottom of the fifth, but got a run on an RBI hit by freshman third baseman Adam Rossit in the bottom of the fifth inning to get within two runs.

The Lasers then took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring seven runs on five hits, a hit batter and a Mt. San Jacinto error.

Freshman right fielder Weston Ellis knocked in the first run of IVC's frame with a single up the middle.

Later, with the bases loaded, sophomore shortstop Jordan Gillerman was hit by a pitch to force in a run and tie the game at 4-4.

Sophomore catcher Branden Williams delivered the big blow next. He hit a double deep to left center that cleared the bases and gave Irvine Valley the lead for good at 7-4.

Two batters later sophomore center fielder Dillon Millar tripled to drive in two more runs and put Irvine Valley ahead, 9-4.

Irvine Valley added a run in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI double by Gillerman to take a 10-4 lead.

Mt. San Jacinto scored three runs in the top of the ninth on three hits, a walk, a wild pitch for a run and a passed ball for a run.

But Irvine Valley was able to hold on for the victory. Sophomore reliever Cole Millerd retired the final batter with a runner on for the save.

It was all enough for sophomore right-hander Kyle Goodbrand, who got his first win of the season as a Laser.

He went six innings and gave up three runs on five hits with five walks and nine strikeouts. Goodbrand was able to escape a couple of early jams and pitched better as the game went on.

Sophomores Andrew Jimenez and Joseph Chacon each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for IVC.

At the plate, Williams was 3 for 3 with a run scored and three RBI. Sophomore left fielder Clint Jack went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, freshman second baseman Tyler Odekirk was 3 for 4 with a run scored, Rossit went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and one RBI, Millar was 2 for 5 with two RBI and Ellis went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
