Baseball player Matt Harris signs with Cal State Monterey Bay

Irvine Valley baseball player Matt Harris has signed to play at Cal State Monterey bay next season.

Harris was a starting outfielder and leader for the Lasers the past two seasons.

The 6-0, 200-pound Harris was named all-Orange Empire Conference after his freshman season in 2013. He batted .326 with 43 hits, nine doubles, 16 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and 18 RBI.

He ranked first on the team in batting average, stolen bases and doubles, second in RBI and fourth in runs scored.

Harris recorded 12 multi-hit games, including one four-hit game and five games with three hits. He went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBI in a late-season 13-4 win at Orange Coast during the 2013 season.

This past spring, Harris batted .242 with one home run, 22 runs and 15 RBI.

He led the team in RBI, runs scored and doubles and tied for second with 31 hits.

Harris had a four-RBI day, going 2 for 3 at the plate in a 13-1 win over Barstow early in the season.

He also went 4 for 4 at the plate with three runs and two doubles in a 13-11 Irvine Valley win over Long Beach City on Feb. 15.

The Mission Viejo High product is heading to a NCAA Division 2 Cal State Monterey Bay program that had a record of 23-27 overall last season and was 18-22 in conference.
