Baseball player Dallas Porter signs with South Alabama

Irvine Valley sophomore baseball player Dallas Porter has signed a letter of intent to play at South Alabama next school year.

Porter was a two-year starter and played both second base and shortstop for the Lasers.

He had a career batting average of .284 for IVC, batting .293 as a freshman in 2013 and .274 this past season as a sophomore.

Porter ranked second on the team in batting average, first in stolen bases (11) and first in triples (2) on the Lasers this past season.

"He was obviously a productive player his two years here," IVC coach Kent Madole said. "He uses the whole field when swinging the bat and he is an outstanding second baseman.

"Dallas really battled for us both years.

"We have no doubt that he is a Division 1 baseball player. And with all of the experience and at bats and reps he got as a two year-starter in the Orange Empire Conference, he is more than prepared to do well for South Alabama."

The former Mission Viejo High standout is headed to Division 1 South Alabama team that competes in the Sun Belt Conference.

The Jaguars had a record of 21-26 heading into this weekend's action.
