Former baseball player Ryan Wagner leads Bacone College

Former Irvine Valley baseball player Ryan Wagner had a big week last week.

He was named first team all-Red River Athletic Conference for Bacone College and then helped his team do something it had never achieved before.

Wagner, a junior catcher, was one of six Bacone players to earn all-conference honors.

Wagner hit .305 with three home runs and 31 RBI for Bacone during the regular season.

Wagner went 2 for 5 with a RBI in the team's final game of the regular season, a 6-5 win over Texas College last week.

Bacone improved its record to 31-18 overall.

He also helped Bacone, which is located in Muskogee, Okla., win its first ever conference tournament title last weekend.

Bacone went into the event as the third seeded team from the conference, but battled to take the title.

Bacone exploded for a six-run outburst in the first inning and held on to win its first RRAC Baseball Tournament title, 7-4, over host school and top-seeded LSU Shreveport on Sunday.

The Warriors had reached the championship game three previous times including a loss to LSU Shreveport two years ago.

Bacone had a perfect run through the tournament with three victories - two against LSU Shreveport and one against No. 2 seed Jarvis Christian.

Wagner was a captain at Irvine Valley last season. He played in 34 of the team's 35 games and led the squad with 20 RBI.
