Baseball team can't get going at Santa Ana

Irvine Valley's baseball team dropped the season series to Santa Ana with a 5-1 defeat on the road on Saturday.

Sana Ana has won the first two games of the three-game set with the finale coming Tuesday at IVC at 2 p.m.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 8-20 overall and 4-12 in conference play. Santa Ana improved to 18-11 overall and 9-7 in conference.

Santa Ana scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control. 

The Dons extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run by Daniel Martinez Jr.

Freshman center fielder Brett Hamilton provided Irvine Valley's lone run with a solo home run in the top of the fifth.

Santa Ana scored its final run in the bottom of the seventh.

Kevin Clementi earned the win on the mound for Santa Ana. He held IVC to one run on three hits while striking out six batters over seven innings.

Sophomore righty Jesus Meza took the loss for the Lasers. He gave up all five runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings of work.

Freshman relievers Buddy Brouwer and Marcos Higareda each pitched a scoreless 2/3 of an inning for IVC. Both had one strikeout.

Irvine Valley finished with four hits on the day. 

Freshman shortstop Zach Vittetow was 1 for 3 with a walk for the Lasers.
