Baseball team loses at Long Beach City

Irvine Valley's baseball team fell at Long Beach City in a nonconference game on Thursday at Long Beach City.

The Vikings defeated the Lasers, 3-1.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 2-6 on the season, while Long Beach City improved to 3-3.

Sophomore pitcher Jesus Meza took the loss. He pitched a solid six innings. Meza gave up two runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

His record dropped to 0-2 on the season.

Irvine Valley fell behind early with Long Beach City putting up single runs in the bottom of the second and third innings.

Irvine Valley scored its lone run in the top of the eighth.

Freshman second baseman hit a two-out double to left to score sophomore pinch-hitter Matt Harris.

Harris had singled earlier in the inning.

But Long Beach City came back with another run in the bottom of the eighth for the final score.

Irvine Valley had just two hits in the game. With Cervantes and Porter getting the lone hits.

Long Beach City finished with five hits in the game.

Manuel Barragan went eight innings and gave up one run on two hits and two walks with five strikeouts to pick up the win for the Vikings.

Irvine Valley hosts Long Beach City on Saturday at noon.
