The Irvine Valley baseball team's opening game for the 2014 season was suspended due to darkness after the 11th inning on Friday at IVC.
The Lasers and Vikings will resume play in the top of the 12th inning on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. at Irvine Valley.
The teams were already scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday.
Friday's suspended game will be played first and then the teams will carry on with the doubleheader, although one or both of those games may be shortened to seven innings.
Irvine Valley led Barstow, 5-1, heading into the top of the eighth inning on Friday, but the Vikings came up with four runs against Irvine Valley sophomore reliever Jeremy Ibarra to tie the score.
Irvine Valley took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-out, two-run single by freshman second baseman Nathan Cervantes.
His single up the middle scored freshman center fielder Brett Hamilton and freshman catcher Ben Deperry, who had each come up with infield singles with two outs earlier in the inning.
The Lasers extended their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning. After sophomore shortstop Brady Zinsser reached on an error, sophomore pitcher Jesus Meza knocked in Zinsser with a double to left center.
Irvine Valley made it a 4-1 game in the bottom of the sixth when Meza walked with the bases loaded.
And the Lasers took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh when Cervantes walked with the bases loaded.
Irvine Valley had plenty of chances to score on Friday, but left 14 runners on base.
Through 11 innings on Friday, Hamilton was 3 for 6, Cervantes went 2 for 4 with three RBI and two walks and freshman third baseman Zach Vittetow was 3 for 5 with a walk.
Barstow was led by Kyle Silva, who was 3 for 5, Marcos Sanchez, who went 3 for 5 with two RBI, and Michael McNicholl, who was 2 for 5.
In the top of the eighth when Barstow got back in the game, Sanchez had a two-run double and the Vikings also scored a run on a balk and an error.
Meza looked good on the mound for Irvine Valley to start the game. He went seven innings and gave up one run (unearned) on five hits with one strikeout.
