Women's beach volleyball team moves to 4-0 in OEC play

Irvine Valley's women's beach volleyball team continued its streak in Orange Empire Conference play.

The Lasers defeated both Fullerton and Saddleback in conference matches on Friday at home.

IVC improved its record to 5-4 overall and 4-0 in the OEC.

In the match with Fullerton, IVC won on the first four courts in straight sets and earned a default on court No. 5

On the first court, the sophomore duo of Tessa Marocco and Kenzie Dews came away with a 21-8, 21-15 win.

The IVC team of sophomore Natalia Brandlin and freshman Audrey Fowler had an even easier time with a 21-7, 21-8 victory.

Irvine Valley's No. 3 pair of sophomore Mia Bertolone and freshman Avery Bennett won 21-5, 21-8, and the No. 4 duo of freshmen Halen Kiefer and Nikki Korneff won, 21-8, 21-19.

The Lasers had two matches go to three sets against district rival Saddleback, but the Lasers still blanked the Bobcats.

Marocco and Dews had the toughest match of the day. The two dropped the first set, but won the next two, 21-14, 15-13 to close out the contest.

Brandlin and Fowler (21-8, 21-10), Bennett and Bertolone (21-12, 21-6) and sophomore Felicia Bonus and freshman Ava Guenther (21-4, 21-6) each won easy in straight sets.

Kiefer and Korneff also came out on top on the fifth court with a 18-21, 21-15, 15-6 victory.

IVC plays again Friday in Huntington Beach with Santiago Canyon, a new team in the conference, hosting the Lasers and Golden West.
