Beach volleyball team wins fourth and fifth straight matches

Irvine Valley's women's beach volleyball team improved its record to 11-11 overall and 8-1 in the Orange Empire Conference with a pair of 5-0 sweeps on Friday at home.

The Lasers defeated Riverside, 5-0, in its first match of the day and then beat Saddleback, 5-0, at noon.

Irvine Valley won all five matches against Riverside in straight sets.

Highlights in the opener included the sophomore pair of Chloe Swanson and Barett Nolan winning, 21-12, 21-10, on court one and the pair of sophomore Angie Griego and freshman Tessa Marocco coming through with a 21-10, 21-7 victory on the third court.

Against Saddleback, the pairs of Swanson and Nolan, freshman Sydney Dews and sophomore Gabi Brown, Griego and Marocco and freshmen Kayla Torres and Mia Bartelone eacn won in straight sets. Griego and Marocco won, 21-13, 21-7.

And on the fifth court, IVC closed out the sweep with a 18-21, 21-8, 15-9 triumph on the fifth court.

Irvine Valley, which has already captured the Orange Empire Conference Eastern Division title, closes out the regular season next Friday against Santa Ana at the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach.
