Women's beach volleyball team sweeps pair of OEC matches

The Irvine Valley women's beach volleyball team has endured a rough schedule over the last two weeks.

The Lasers played seven four-year programs in eight contests.

And while IVC picked up some losses, the experience and time on the court could make a difference for the Lasers as they get back into Orange Empire Conference play.

Irvine Valley took on two OEC teams on Wednesday morning as part of an event hosted by Saddleback in the rain at the Laser Beach Courts complex.

IVC defeated both Fullerton and Saddleback by the scores of 5-0 to improve its record to 6-10 overall and 4-1 in conference.

Irvine Valley's most impressive match of the day came from the No. 2 pair of sophomore Gabi Brown and freshman Sydney Dews. The squad defeated Saddleback, 21-6, 21-0.

Also against Saddleback, the No. 1 pair of sophomores Barett Nolan and Chloe Swanson won, 21-11, 21-14, sophomore Angie Griego and freshman Tessa Marocco came out on top 21-12, 21-15, on the third court, the freshman pair of Emily Hon and Mia Bertolone won 21-11, 21-8, and the sohomore duo of Kendall Fraser and Alessandra Nitogilia earned a 21-3, 21-9, on court five.

Irvine Valley won all four matches played in straight sets against Fullerton in its first contest of the day. The Hornets deaulted on the fifth court.

Hon and Bertolone won, 21-8, 21-6, at No. 4 to lead the way.

Nolan and Swanson were 21-5, 21-16 winners on the first court, Brown and Dews won, 21-13, 21-10, and Griego and Marocco won, 21-9, 21-11.

The Lasers play again on Friday on the road. The team plays at Mt. San Antonio and will take on the Mounties and College of the Desert. Play begins for IVC at 11:30 p.m. against host Mt. SAC.
