Beach volleyball team faces Nebraska and Hope International

The Irvine Valley women's beach volleyball team took on two four-year programs on Saturday at home, including one that plays at the Division 1 level.

The Lasers hosted the University of Nebraska and Hope International University.

Irvine Valley played Nebraska tough on a couple of courts, but fell, 5-0, in the first match of the day.

The Laser sophomore pair of Gabi Brown and Angie Griego lost, 21-13, 28-26, on the second court against the Huskers and IVC's sophomore Kendall Fraser and freshman Alessandra Nitogilia fought into a third set on the fifth court before falling,21-15, 20-22, 17-15.

Later on, IVC had its chances, but fell to NAIA Hope International, 3-2.

Irvine Valley dropped matches in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 3.

But the Lasers reached three sets on the three other courts and ended up taking two of them.

Brown and Griego won, 21-16, 20-22, 15-12, at No. 2 and the fifth pair of Fraser and Nitogilia came through, 21-15, 21-23, 18-16.

The two losses dropped Irvine Valley's record to 3-5 overall.

Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday when it hosts another pair of four-year schools. The Lasers compete against the Master's University at 11 a.m. and then Division 1 Boise State at noon.
