
Irvine Valley's women's beach volleyball team had the most pairs reach the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships out of any other community college from the South Region event on Friday at IVC.
Irvine Valley had four teams qualify and two duos finish in the top four, which assured them No. 1 seeds at the state tourney.
Irvine Valley's top team of sophomore Renata Bath and freshman Lea Kruse took third in the regional and the freshmen duo of Anna Unke and Gabriela Griego ended up fourth.
Both of those squads will go in as No. 1 seeds at the CCCAA State Championships at the US Olympic Training center in Chula Vista next Friday.
Also qualifying for the Lasers were the teams of sophomores Alyssa Vortouni and Emilie Austin and freshmen Alaina Gendale and Kendall Nolan.
Vortouni and Austin qualified as the 12th team out of the regional and Gendale and Nolan and were No. 16.
Twenty pairs in all advanced from the South Region event to compete at state.
Two teams made it each from Grossmont, Long Beach City, El Camino, MiraCosta and San Diego Mesa.
Irvine Valley will next compete in the CCCAA Team State Championships next Thursday in Chula Vista.
