Beach volleyball team stays unbeaten in conference play

Irvine Valley's women's beach volleyball team cruised to a 5-0 Orange Empire Conference win over Santa Ana on Friday afternoon at IVC.

The win kept Irvine Valley perfect in conference and against community college opponents this year.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 7-5 overall (5-0 against community colleges) and 3-0 in conference play. Santa Ana fell to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in conference.

The Lasers won all five contests in straight sets, including getting a 21-5, 21-10 win from its No. 1 team of sophomore Renata Bath and Lea Kruse.

Other winners included the duos of freshmen Gabriela Griego and Anna Unke, sophomores Alyssa Vortouni and Emilie Austin, freshmen Kendall Nolan and Alaina Gendale and freshman Alaina Thomas and Alison Kent.

Irvine Valley continues its busy week of action on Sunday when it hosts a big day of beach volleyball.

Joining Irvine Valley on Sunday will be Stanford, Grand Canyon and Concordia.

Action gets underway at 9 a.m. with the Lasers taking on Pac-12 power Stanford.
