Irvine Valley beat a four-year school and lost to another on Thursday afternoon at home.
The Lasers defeated Westcliff University from Irvine, 5-0, before falling to the University of Nebraska, 4-1.
IVC players competed well throughout the day.
In the finale, the Lasers even took two matches against Nebraska to three sets and picked up a win from its top duo.
Irvine Valley's record went to 6-5 overall with the split.
Against Westcliff, the Lasers picked up straight set victories from its No. 1 team of freshman Lea Kruse and sophomore Renata Bath, No. 2 team of freshmen Anna Unke and Gabriela Griego, No. 3 duo of sophomores Alyssa Vortouni and Emilie Austin and No. 4 team of freshmen Kendall Nolan and Alaina Gendale.
And the No.5 Laser team of freshman Alaina Thomas and sophomore Alison Kent held on for a 21-15, 15-21, 15-5 win over Westcliff's team of Kassidy Beagan and Vasiti Baleilomaloma.
Irvine Valley battled on all courts against Nebraska.
The Laser No. 2 duo of Unke and Griego won the first set against Nebraska's Kenzie Knuckles and Jazz Sweet, 21-19.
But Knuckles and Sweet won the next two sets, 21-15 and 15-9.
Irvine Valley's top team picked up one of its best wins of the season, besting Nebraska's No. 1 duo of Nicklin Hames and Lauren Stivrins, 19-21, 25-23, 15-12.
Nebraska, which defeated Westcliff, 5-0, improved its record to 12-8 on the season.
Irvine Valley is back in action on Friday, hosting Santa Ana in an Orange Empire Conference match at 12 p.m.
