
Irvine Valley's women's beach volleyball team split matches on Friday afternoon at home, taking down Golden West, 4-1, in an Orange Empire Conference contest and then falling to NCAA Division I Missouri State, 4-1.
Against Golden West, Irvine Valley swept all five matches.
Irvine Valley's No. 1 team of sophomore Renata Bath and freshman Lea Kruse cruised to a 21-10, 21-9 victory.
Also picking up wins were the No. 2 team of freshmen Anna Unke and Gabriela Griego, the No. 3 team of sophomores Emilie Austin and Alyssa Vortouni, the No. 4 team of freshmen Kendall Nolan and Alaina Gendale and the No. 5 team of sophomore Alison Kent and freshman Alaina Thomas.
Kent and Thomas played impressively, winning, 21-9, 21-5.
Against Missouri State, Irvine Valley's lone win came from Bath and Kruse on the first court. The duo defeated Missouri State's Julie Hanson and Chloe McDaniel, 21-15, 21-17.
The Lasers had some tight sets on other courts in losses.
Griego and Unke played well, but fell, 21-16, 21-17.
With the split, Irvine Valley's record went to 5-4 overall. Irvine Valley did improve its record in Orange Empire Conference play to 3-0 and the Lasers are 5-0 this season against community college opponents. Four of those have been 5-0 sweeps.
Irvine Valley is back in action on Thursday with two more home matches – both against four-year schools. Irvine Valley hosts the University of Nebraska at 12:00 p.m. and then Division II Cal State San Marcos at 2 p.m.
