Women's beach volleyball team wins another conference title

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team captured its second straight Orange Empire Conference title last Friday at Golden West.

It is the fifth straight conference title for the Lasers going back to 2012.

IVC played as a club team during the first three years of the program. Beach volleyball has been a sanctioned California Community College Athletic Association sport the past two years.

Irvine Valley, which is also the defending state champion, clinched this year's OEC title with a 4-1 win over Golden West.

Both teams were undefeated in conference play heading into the match.

IVC got wins from its second through fifth pairs teams.

The No. 2 team of sophomore Hannah Matt and freshman Carlee Roethlisberger and the No.3 team of sophomore Kayla Scheevel and freshman Olivia Aguilar each won in straight sets.

IVC's No. 4 team of sophomore Juju Cannon and freshman Alissa Blevins came through with a 21-15, 23-21 victory.

And the team of sophomore Taylor Askins and freshman Brittany Tuliau won, 21-17, 21-23, 18-16.

Irvine Valley defeated Riverside, 5-0, to end up undefeated in conference action.

Irvine Valley got straight-set victories from the teams of sophomores Hailee Earnest and Emily Reinking, Roethlisberger and Matt, Sheevel and Aguilar and Cannon and Blevins.

Earnest and Reinking won, 21-17, 21-7, on the No. 1 court.

Irvine Valley's No. 5 team of Askins and Tuliau won in three sets, 21-6, 21-23, 15-12.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 9-6 overall and 7-0 in conference.

The Lasers next compete in the Orange Empire Conference Finals on Wednesday and Friday.

Wednesday's competition will be the opening rounds at Golden West starting at noon.

IVC will host the round of 16 through the finals on Friday beginning at noon.
