Women's sand volleyball team sweeps again

Irvine Valley swept its second straight women's sand volleyball match.

The Lasers defeated both Santa Ana and MiraCosta, 5-0, Friday afternoon in the rain at IVC.

Irvine Valley's top team of Allie Cook and Annie Michum defeated MiraCosta's top team, 21-5, 21-7. Cook and Mitchum beat Santa Ana's top team, 21-10, 21-18.

Irvine Valley's No. 2 team of Becky Moodie and Lainey Hicks won, 21-5, 21-12, and then by forfeit against MiraCosta.

The No. 3 team for the Lasers of Alex Goodman and Avae Masaniai won, 21-3, 21-2, and 21-11, 21-9.

The fourth team of Katherine Kolodziej and Emily Daily came out on top, 21-5, 21-12, and 21-11, 21-11.

And Irvine Valley's fifth team of Haley Whyte and Lauren Bender won its first match, 21-10, 21-13.

Bender teamed with Crystal Dedes in the second match against MiraCosta and won the first set, 21-3, before the MiraCosta pair retired.

Irvine Valley has a big match coming up in two weeks. It will take on four-year universities Nebraska and Loyola Marymount on March 20 at Irvine Valley.

Nebraska is currently ranked No. 9 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association for sand.
