Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Oct. 9 is sophomore women's volleyball player Mia Bertolone.

The standout setter helped lead the Lasers to two more wins last week, including finishing with a career-high in assists in IVC's come from behind, five-set win over Orange Coast in a big conference match at home Friday night.

She started the week by ending with 33 assists, nine digs and four aces and pacing the Lasers to a team hitting percentage of .342 in a 25-14, 25-6, 25-8 win over Fullerton at home on Wednesday night.

And then in the huge match on Friday between No. 7 Irvine Valley and No. 13 Orange Coast, Bertolone finished with 61 assists in the Lasers' 22-25, 25-27, 25-22, 25-18, 19-7 win. Bertolone also four aces and 12 digs.

It was Irvine Valley's fifth straight win and improved its record to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

On the season, Bertolone is averaging 11.16 assists per set along with 3.16 digs per set. She is also fourth on the team in aces with 15.

Bertolone ranks first in the conference and statewide in assists per set. She is only nine assists away from 500 on the year.

And the former Douglas High in Nevada player has four matches this season with at least 40 assists in a match.
