Julian Anaya, Men's Soccer

Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Nov. 5 is sophomore men's soccer player Julian Anaya.

The midfielder/forward had two goals and two assists last week as the Lasers won two more matches.

IVC stretched its win streak to three with a 5-0 victory over Pasadena City and a 4-2 win over Norco.

Against Pasadena City in a nonconference match last Wednesday, Anaya scored two goals and had two assists.

He made it a 2-0 lead for the Lasers in the 16th minute.

Anaya drilled a shot into the upper right corner of the net. The play was set up by midfielder Daniel Segal, who showed nice patience in delivering a perfect pass to Anaya.

And Anaya completed IVC's scoring in the second half, finishing a pass from forward Grant Joyce in the 52nd minute.

Anaya nearly scored another, but his volley banged off the side of the post.

Irvine Valley fell behind Norco, 1-0, on Friday, but answered thanks to work put in by Anaya.

He wasn't credited with an assist in the contest, but helped set up two of the team's goals.

Anaya improved his stats to five goals and four assists on the season for 14 points.

The former University High player ranks tied for ninth in the Orange Empire Conference in assists and is 16th in points.
