Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Dec. 17 is men's basketball player Geoff Salas.

The sophomore shooting guard scored an IVC career-high 32 points against a ranked Miramar team last Saturday at MiraCosta College as part of the second day of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference vs. Orange Empire Conference Crossover Classic.

IVC rallied late thanks to Salas, but fell in double overtime, 85-81.
Salas scored 10 points in the final 49 seconds in regulation to help Irvine Valley tie the score and send the game to overtime.

He played 31 minutes and shot 10 of 21 from the floor, including 7 of 11 from three-point range. Salas made 5 of 8 free throws and also added 11 rebounds in the defeat.

On the season, Salas is averaging a team-high 11.6 points per game. He is shooting 51.0 percent from the floor and 50.8 percent from three-point range.

He has scored in double figures in six games so far this year.

Salas had back-to-back games of 16 and 20 points earlier this year in the Irvine Valley Classic and was named to the all-tournament team.

Irvine Valley, with a 3-10 record overall, plays again on Thursday against Bakersfield at 3 p.m. in the Paul Landreaux Classic at El Camino.
