Irvine Valley’s athlete of the week for Jan. 28 and the second time in a row is women’s basketball player Anai Washington.

The freshman do-everything guard is averaging 22.0 points and 7.0 rebounds over her last three games, which were all IVC victories.

She has helped lead Irvine Valley, ranked No. 14 in the state, to a 16-3 overall record and 7-0 mark in the Orange Empire Conference.

Included in the last three games, was a season-high 29 points for Washington in Irvine Valley’s big 81-68 victory at Riverside on Jan. 18. She went 11 of 14 from the field in that contest.

And she had 21 points on 10 of 12 shooting and 11 rebounds as Irvine Valley defeated Santa Ana, 77-56, on the road last Friday night.

Washington has scored in double figures in 16 of IVC’s 19 games this season and has topped the 20-point mark three times.

On the year, Washington is averaging a team-best 14.2 points per game. She is also averaging 5.7 rebounds, 1.8 steals and is shooting an impressive 51.4 percent from the field.

She has taken her game up even another notch since conference play started.

Washington is averaging 18.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and shooting 63.2 percent in IVC’s seven conference games.

The former Norco High standout ranks sixth in the conference in points per game and first in shooting percentage.

Irvine Valley has an important game this Wednesday at Cypress, which sits in second place in the conference standings behind IVC.
